Aspartame is it safe or not?

Right off the top I will make a personal statement that Aspartame is not safe at all, however you need to read on to understand why.

Well this is a tricky one if you are not familiar with the Ramazzini studies you need to take a look at this entry Aspartame Controversy from wikipedia to give yourself some background on the issue.
I will quickly summarize to some extent the issues with this study and the issues with the responses to these studies.

Before I even begin to attempt to summarize Ramazzini I must make mention of the Complete Bressler Report this is a lengthy 132 page document however it clearly shows as testified before congress there were inappropriate deletions of data that actually proved the Ramazzini studies before they were even conducted and before Aspartame was ever given the thumbs up. This individual has done a very nice job summarizing the Bressler report so I will point you there as opposed to summarizing it myself. Bressler Report Summarized now on to my attempt to summarize Ramazzini.

Essentially the studies have been discredited due to the fact that Ramazzini Foundation cannot prove they used pathogen free mice in there studies. There are a few issues with this; the first issue is the FDA cannot prove or show any evidence the control mice were pathogen free and the mice fed Aspartame were not pathogen free nor can Ramazzini however after "careful' review that has been the conclusion. The mice however were obtained from the same source and simply separated into their respective test groups. Therefor the argument really comes down to all the mice either were pathogen free, all the mice were not pathogen free or there was an unknown mix of both. There simply is no way to tell. The group of mice fed Aspartame did develop several issues the control mice did not. Since the FDA discredited this study every study to follow that shows the exact same results has been automatically discredited pointing to the Ramazzini studies regardless if the studies were able to prove pathogen free mice were used or not.

This is simply my personal conclusion there was unfortunately neglect on part of the Ramazzini Foundation and quite frankly to automatically dismiss any further studies that show the exact same effects shows neglect on part of the FDA. From my personal experience in breeding thousands of mice some pathogen free mice tend to develop tumors for no known reason and some mice that are certainly not pathogen free never develop tumors. I would tend to lead toward extreme caution with Aspartame after reviewing the studies yourself I am sure you will come to the conclusion it is not safe.
